347 Pipe
Type 347 Pipe is a niobium-stabilized chromium-nickel austenitic stainless steel with corrosion resistance similar to 304/304L.
By adding niobium, this grade can be used in the temperature range of 800-1500˚F while avoiding the precipitation of unwanted chromium carbides. Instead, niobium carbides are formed, providing stabilization. It displays exceptional resistance to intergranular corrosion when subjected to this temperature range. Moreover, this grade possesses formidable resilience against oxidation up to 1500˚F, while exhibiting superior creep and stress rupture characteristics than 304/304L. In addition, it exhibits excellent toughness at low temperatures and does not exhibit magnetic properties when in the annealed state. This pipe is made of austenitic chromium-nickel stainless steel that is stabilized with the addition of columbium/tantalum. It also displays superb resistance to intergranular corrosion and oxidation even under elevated temperatures. The incorporation of columbium and tantalum into this material prevents the development of chromium carbide formation. Columbium-tantalum carbides preferentially form within the grain structure of the material rather than at the grain boundaries due to their higher attraction for carbon compared to chromium. it also is a suitable choice for applications that involve occasional heating within the temperature range of 800ºF (427ºC) to 1650ºF (899ºC), or for welding when post-weld annealing is not possible. Additionally, this material exhibits non-magnetic properties.
