304L Pipe
Type 304/304L is a contemporary form of “18-8” stainless steel that comprises roughly 18% chromium and 8% nickel. It is the most widely used stainless steel grade globally. Type 304/304L Pipe is a highly adaptable, all-purpose stainless steel that offers excellent protection against atmospheric corrosion, chemical exposure, and food and beverage degradation. When specified in the annealed state, these grades exhibit exceptional formability capabilities. To improve the ability to perform multi-stage deep drawing, higher nickel versions can be selected. Higher strength, cold-worked conditions can also be specified for Type 304/304L Pipe for spring-type applications. While Type 304/304L is not magnetic when annealed, it may acquire some magnetism after undergoing cold working.
If the composition of Type 304L conforms to the lower carbon content requirement and its strength level is slightly higher than that of Type 304, it can be considered as dual-certified as Type 304. For welded applications, it is recommended to specify Type 304L Pipe because its low carbon content prevents the formation of chromium carbide and improves its corrosion resistance in its welded state.
