MONEL 400 PIPE
With a composition of approximately 67% nickel and 23% copper, Monel 400 is highly resistant to corrosive environments such as sea water and high temperature steam, as well as solutions containing salt and caustic substances. Cold working is the only means by which Alloy 400, a solid solution alloy, can be hardened. Good weldability, high strength, and excellent resistance to corrosion are all distinguishing qualities of this nickel alloy. Due to its low corrosion rate in brackish and seawater with high flow rate, as well as its resistance to stress-corrosion cracking in fresh water and various corrosive conditions, this material is widely utilized in marine applications and other chloride solutions that do not oxidize. Its excellent ability to withstand these environments makes it highly desirable for industrial use. This nickel alloy is particularly resistant to hydrochloric and hydrofluoric acids when they are de-aerated. Due to its significant copper component, alloy 400’s susceptibility to corrosion increases when exposed to nitric acid and ammonia systems.
This nickel alloy finds widespread use in various industries such as marine and offshore engineering, salt production, feed water heaters, and chemical processes.
