Alloy 718 is a high strength nickel base superalloy used for cryogenic temperatures up to long term service at 1200°F. The alloy is readily fabricated and may be welded in either the annealed or precipitation (age) hardened condition.

Alloy 718 is a nickel-based superalloy with exceptional strength, capable of performing at cryogenic temperatures and for extended periods of time at 1200°F. This alloy can be easily shaped and may be welded whether in its softened or hardened state achieved through precipitation aging. Heat the material to a temperature range of 1700-1850°F and cool it down either by air or faster methods to anneal. To age the material, heat it to 1325°F for 8 hours, then allow it to cool in the furnace to 1150°F and hold it there for a total aging time of 18 hours before cooling it down by air. The precipitation hardening process will result in Alloy 718 contracting by a rate of 0.0008 inches per inch.

• This alloy boasts exceptional welding properties and has demonstrated resistance to age cracking following welding.

• This alloy displays resistance to oxidation within the range of temperatures in which it is regularly utilized.
