2507 Pipe
The exceptional strength and corrosion resistance of Alloy 2507 make it an ideal choice for challenging applications like chemical processing, petrochemical, and marine equipment. This top-performing super duplex stainless steel is comprised of 25% chromium, 4% molybdenum, and 7% nickel and is engineered to withstand demanding conditions. The steel boasts impressive anti-corrosion properties, thanks to its elevated levels of nitrogen, chromium, and molybdenum. This super duplex stainless steel shows remarkable resistance to pitting, crevice, and general corrosion, coupled with exceptional thermal conductivity and a low coefficient of thermal expansion. Its resistance to chloride stress corrosion cracking is particularly noteworthy.
Additionally, Alloy 2507 exhibits high impact strength. However, it is not advised for use in applications involving extended exposure to temperatures exceeding 570°F, as this may result in decreased toughness.
The impressive levels of chromium and molybdenum found in Alloy 2507 make it highly resistant to uniform corrosion from organic acids, such as formic and acetic acid. Moreover, it exhibits exceptional protection against inorganic acids, especially those with chlorides.
Alloy 2507 exhibits greater resistance to corrosion in chlorinated dilute sulfuric acid solutions compared to 904L, an austenitic steel grade that is heavily alloyed and specifically engineered to withstand pure sulfuric acid.
The use of 316L stainless steel (containing 2.5% Mo) is not recommended in hydrochloric acid environments due to the potential for both localized and uniform corrosion. In contrast, Alloy 2507 has demonstrated suitability for use in dilute hydrochloric acid conditions. While pitting corrosion may not be a concern in the region below the borderline indicated in the accompanying figure, caution should be exercised to prevent crevice corrosion.
